CED Members Attended the Hawker Culture of Singapore Presentation

On May 1, 13 diplomats from 8 countries and 12 CED volunteers enjoyed a special presentation about the "Hawker" culture in Singapore. Soo Fen Lui, wife of the Ambassador from Singapore, graciously invited us into her home, where we were learned about the Hawker culture, which was added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020. From the world-famous chicken rice to the late-night 'roti prata', the crowd-favorite 'laksa' to the comforting flavors of 'nasi lemak', Singapore’s hawkers have been feeding generations of people from all walks of life. We were also treated to a wonderful demonstration of how to make 'popiah', a non-fried spring roll-like snack, and several delicious hawker dishes. A VERY special meeting!
