Cultural Exchange for Diplomats welcomed 92 diplomats, representing 36 countries, for this year’s New Diplomat Welcome on October 8. The gathering at Meridian House was the culmination of months of planning and preparation by our volunteers—and a wonderful start to new friendships.
The morning introduced Washington’s newest diplomats and their spouses to CED’s programs, cultural exchanges, and the volunteers who bring them to life. We were honored to hear from guest speakers Congressman Don Beyer, Jr., who spoke of his experience having served as ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and Rina Kawai, our diplomat from Japan, who emphasized the valuable role CED plays in welcoming and building connections across cultures. We look forward to continuing these conversations and deepening these friendships through our cultural exchanges and programs in the months ahead.
